Maritza Caraveo-Gonzales - University of New Mexico

My name is Maritza Caraveo-Gonzales, and I am a dedicated Public Health student at the University of New Mexico, set to graduate in December 2024. Alongside my academic pursuits, I am actively involved in social services with PB&J Family Services, where our mission is to support children in their growth and development within nurturing family environments and a compassionate community. I was born and raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico. As the daughter of immigrant families, I embody the values of resilience and determination that have been passed down through generations. Growing up, I witnessed the sacrifices my parents made to provide us with opportunities and a brighter future. Their unwavering commitment to achieving the American Dream has instilled in me a deep sense of purpose and motivation.I strive to honor their journey by pursuing my own aspirations with dedication and hard work. This experience has shaped my perspective, fueling my passion for social justice and community support. I aim to create pathways for others facing similar challenges, contribute to a more equitable society where everyone has the chance to thrive, and be an example to use my pathways as a blueprint to follow. I am deeply committed to making a difference in the lives of others. Upon completing my Bachelor of Science in Public Health, I plan to pursue a Bachelor’s in Nursing. My passion for nursing stems from personal experiences; I have witnessed firsthand the profound impact that compassionate care can have on families during challenging times. I aspire to provide support and comfort to patients and their families, creating a positive and lasting difference in their lives. In addition to my academic and professional endeavors, I prioritize my physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I am passionate about fitness, viewing it not only as a means of building strength but also as a pathway to personal growth and mental health. I embrace the challenge of pushing my limits in the gym while also engaging in mindfulness and self-reflection.
