2023 Legislative Session Policy Advocacy

As we enter the 2023 Legislative Session, the New Mexico Public Health Association (NMPHA) has a critical opportunity to choose its legislative priorities based on our mission, vision, Acknowledgement of Ancestral Lands and racial justice values, and ongoing close partnerships.

Over the last six months, NMPHA staff has worked to gather information about opportunities for advocacy in the 2023 session from our membership, Board, close community partners, and participants in the 2022 Policy Forum. We are grateful to be part of a dedicated community of advocates in New Mexico working toward health equity and racial justice, and considered many worthy legislative items.

With the 2023 New Mexico State Legislative Session in full swing, NMPHA is proud to endorse the following legislation as our 2023 Policy Priorities:

  • SB 11: Paid Family Medical Leave Act
  • HB 400: State-Administered Health Coverage Plan ("Medicaid Forward")
  • HB 49: Appropriation for County and Tribal Health Councils Funding
